For decades, publicly posted newspapers kept Chinatown residents informed, especially resource-limited bachelors. First photographed in 1918, this tradition continued until 1992 with The Chinese Times’ closure. More than news, these papers connected immigrants, shared local updates, and provided a creative outlet, shaping the community’s history and discourse.
Discover the hidden stories of Vancouver’s Chinatown and surrounding neighbourhoods through VITALITY, a unique exhibition that blends Fred Herzog’s iconic photography with compelling narratives that celebrate the enduring spirit of this historic neighborhood.
